Thank you everyone for your patience with this website. In our continuing effort of understanding the impacts of high-rises, we've added an explanation for our second argument: the negative impacts for the urban space. This section deals how high-rises often impact negatively the streetscape and can generate microclimates not suitable for pedestrians. The next section will focus on a larger scale and analyze how high-rises can have significant repercussions on the urban character of the area. |

Last Thursday (November 5) at the Planning Committee meeting, the public had the opportunity to express their opinions regarding the second draft of the Official Plan (OP). The night was well attended with more than 20 people making comments, and many written documents were submitted as well. This suggests that the second draft is not satisfying for many of us and that a third public meeting is both desired and necessary. Topics such as the future densification of the city, the protection of heritage buildings and lands, and the promotion of sustainable transportation in the OP, were questioned and more clarification and detail was requested. Many community groups and organizations were present to express their concerns, to ask questions, or to submit suggestions in the hopes of bettering the OP. It seems that many of these groups, including this one, are working in parallel and are pushing for a more representative and bolder vision for Kingston. Perhaps a coalition of several key members of differents groups can cohesively and exhaustively convey our needs and aspirations to the City of Kingston? As one of the most influential people in planning once said: “Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.” Hello everyone and welcome to Keep Kingston Human Scale!
The purpose of this website is to create a communication medium for the community in the hopes of keeping everyone current and to organize ourselves more effectively. Under the same roof, we would like to gather all of the important information we need such that, as a community, we can create a more respectful vision for downtown Kingston. Go ahead and explore the different pages. The Why? section is still under construction and it shouldn't be too long before new content is added. If you have any feedback about this website, about this cause, or want to help in your own way, you can contact us or post your comments in the discussion board. A Facebook page will likely follow after the completion of this website. Thanks everyone! |
